Are Business Brokers Licensed?

Most states in the US do not require business brokers to have any type of license. There are just 16 states that require business brokers to have a real estate agent license. The following states require business brokers to have a real estate license:

Alaska
Arizona
California
Florida
Georgia
Idaho
Michigan
Minnesota
Nebraska
Oregon
South Dakota
Utah
Washington
Wyoming

In Nevada business brokers need to have a real estate license and also a permit and Illinois requires a registration process only.

If your state does not require business brokers to carry a professional license, this is nothing to be worried about. Just because an individual is not required to have a license does not mean you will not receive the professional service you would receive from a licensed business broker.

It is suggested that you meet with more than one business broker and decide which one is best suitable to sell your business. Click here to find a business broker in your area.
